Harry Main wins Telekom Playgrounds in Berlin, Germany.

The Extreme Playgrounds series in Germany just wrapped up the 2011 season. It's been 5 years in a row with three events per year for the Telekom crew making it 15 contests total. Harry Main showed up in Berlin wanting to do good. The head-to-head system meant that Harry had to beat his opponent twice to make it to the final 4. He did, and in the finals he had some tough competition coming from Mark Webb, Pat Casey and Maddog.

The riders had two runs of 60 seconds each, with the highest score being the one that counted. Harry's first run was amazing and turned out to be the score that noone beat. Some of the tricks he did were a flair drop-in, huge 360-no-hander, a couple of 720 off axis spins and flairs of all sorts.

The event was live on TV in Germany and they saw Harry hold up a 5000 dollar check on the podium for first. Good job Harry, congrats.

Harry Main in Berlin this weekend

Harry Main has been filming for a new web clip that should be out soon. The sessions have been productive. Also Harry has booked a flight to Australia to enjoy another summer and ride some sessions with the riders down there. But this weekend Harry is in Berlin for the Telekom Playgrounds park/street contest. Saturday late afternoon Harry will be at Flair BMX store in Berlin. Sunday will be the day of the comp. Featuring Nigel Sylvester in an exclusive video “1987” by Casio G-Shock

“1987″ by Casio G-Shock, is an urban retro-style video shot on the streets of New York City, the home of BMX icon Nigel Sylvester. The video, titled 1987 the year Nigel was born, celebrates a collaborative timepiece between Casio G-Shock and Nigel. As an adult, Nigel looks back on his year of birth as a time of great creative freedom and experimentation. The film was created to capture that spirit.

The cinematography takes reference from classic arcade games. The sound design draws spirit from the associated 16 bit soundtracks that emanated from the computers of that time. The graphic approach pays homage to Casio.

“In planning the filming of “1987,” I was able to spend time with Nigel talking about his approach to riding, art and life,” said Director Wonford St.James. “Nigel is an incredibly creative individual, something that is clearly apparent in his riding and lifestyle. I drew inspiration for the film from Nigel’s thoughts on the environment around him, and how it has shaped him as a person and an athlete. Nigel is a proud New Yorker.”

Nigel demonstrates the importance of timing while performing tricks wearing the G-Shock GD100NS-7. The stark white band and contrasting black face features the BMX pro’s signature emblazoned in red and a graphic treatment of “1987” on the band. Keeping true to Nigel’s need for a tough and durable watch that can also be worn as a fashion accessory, the GD100NS-7 is Shock Resistant and 200M Water Resistant.

Bicycle Warehouse is hosting a BMX jam at their stores in Chula Vista and Temecula Dec 10 & 11. They will be turning their parking lots into sweet street spots and giving away cash and prizes for stuff like Best Trick and highest hop. Chris Hughes and Lennie Westfall will be hosting games of B.I.K.E. and Foot-down. There will also be plenty of food, drinks, and music.

What better than having a freestyle contest happening in your hometown. No need to take the bike apart, go to the airport, get hassled by the person behind the counter, wait for the delayed flight etc. The BMX Fest took place in Greenville, North Carolina last weekend and in the Pro Park contest it was Chris Hughes who grabbed second place with tricks like his body varial, 720 turndown and cliffhanger backflip. Nice one.

Meet Dave Mirra in Chandler

Dave Mirra is coming to town. That is if you live in Chandler. Dave will be meeting and greeting people who will make it to the Chandler Superstore which is based around cars, but that doesn't mean he isn't looking forward to meet up with BMX riders. Here is the info around the event for this upcoming Sunday 13 November:

The Chandler superstore will host the 2011 "Battle of the Brands" car show, for Honda, Acura and Subaru owners, concurrently. The event gives car owners the opportunity to showcase their one-of-a-kind vehicle.

Food, prizes, music, raffles, and a silent auction with proceeds benefitting S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) will take place.

Dave Mirra became a pro BMX rider in 1992 and holds the record for the most X-Games gold medals. He is one of the world's best-known Action Sports athletes and is credited with bringing freestyle BMX into the mainstream with his success. Dave became a Subaru Rally Team USA driver in late 2007 and has since been successful in Rally car racing as well. In addition to his riding and racing career, Mirra has his own BMX video game and has made several television appearances, including host of Real World/Road Rules Challenge on MTV.

He will be signing autographs and meeting fans at the Subaru Superstore dealership during the "Battle of the Brands" Car Show from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Judging for the competition begins at 10 a.m. and is based on five categories: Vintage, Stock, Modified, Unlimited, and Full Race. First-, second-, and third-place trophies will be awarded, as well as recognition from all attendees.

The final competition will be between the winners of each category from Honda against the winners of each category from Subaru. It will be a head-to-head, "Battle of the Brands" match-up.

Raffles will be held every hour for prizes, gift cards, accessories, and more. The Chandler Fire and Police Department, McGruff the Crime Dog, and Miss DJ MJ from Power 98.3 will also be in attendance.

If you’re going on a trip where you’re not going to ride any vert, what do you change on your bike?
Austin: Nothing. Rocking the same set up for Park, Vert, Dirt, Street. Occasionally I'll put on a massive seat post to cruise the beach boardwalk.

How many rims have you killed doing hang ups?
Austin: 5

How much pressure do you use to tighten your stem bolts?
Austin: Too much. Some times the stems pinch and the hollow bolts break off and get stuck. It's happened to me twice right before a comp run.

What kind of (tire) pump do you use?
Austin: Usually Jay Eggleston's. He always has a pump. Sometimes, even when he doesn't have a bike.

How much pressure goes into your tires?
Austin: 90lbs. for Park. 100lbs. for Vert

Something rattles, what do you do?
Austin: Hunt it down, and kill it.

Is your toolbox well equipped?
Austin: Bare Minimum

What tools do you take with you when you’re traveling?
Austin: ratchet w/ 8mm head and extension, small crescent wrench, spoke wrench, chain breaker, metric allen set, standard allen set.

It was awarded to the highest-ranking Tour rookie in BMX. Kyle Baldock, 20, Australia finished third in both Dirt and Park in his rookie year. So that check was well deserved.

When did you build up the new ride?
Clay: Right after Interbike.

You haven't been able to ride it much, how's the ankle?
Clay: Yea, it's been a month since I have rode. It's hard not to, especially when you look at a fresh whip everyday. I had to take my chain off so I wouldn't be tempted to ride. But the ankle is as good as it's going to get. I'm ready to get back on the grind.

Who are all helping you out with bike parts and stuff?
Clay: Mirraco/Black Label hook it up nicely with new parts. If my old parts are still ride able they go the my homies. We all eat'n.

What are you looking forward to the most, riding which spot?
Clay: Just riding, cruising downtown with the ipod in chilling and filming with the homies. I can't stand sitting inside watching t.v.

Any travel plans where you want to take this bike?
Clay: Naw, no travel plans yet, but I'm trying to make it to Cali soon.

Scared to scratch the paint?
Clay: Haha, I can't front I am. But it's bound to happen.

Kyle Baldock wins DIRT in Vegas at Dew Tour finals

Kyle Baldock got banged up pretty badly in the Park finals but had the Dirt finals coming up on the same day. He put it together in his last run and nailed the tricks he wanted to do. This resulted in a first place in Vegas. Congrats! Here's the winning run for you on video.

Four Mirraco riders lined up for the Park qualifier at the Dew Tour in Las Vegas. Kyle Baldock is in the lead of the series so he automatically had a spot in the final along with number two and number three in the series' standings.

Once again it was a close battle. Andy Buckworth showed how much of a trooper he is by bouncing back after dirt and getting 5th on the park course. Harry Main toughed out a cold and got himself a spot in the finals by getting 6th. That makes the total of Mirraco riders in the finals at three. Chris Hughes was .38 points short of a final spot and Austin Coleman crashed out and had to pay a visit to the hospital. Get well soon Austin. Same comp, different angle. Andy Buckworth and Kyle Baldock were the riders trying to get a spot in the Dirt Finals. Both riders (plus Chris Hughes, Austin Coleman and Harry Main) will participate in the Park contest too. Austin Coleman will be the only Mirraco team rider on the vert ramp in Vegas at the last stop of the Dew Tour.

The Allisports team made the following clip of the Dirt Prelims. They've got several cameras out there and they got to work quickly to get this clip online from Thursday 13 October. Enjoy some amazing riding, including that of Prelims winner Kyle Baldock.

In Thursday's Dew Tour Championships BMX Dirt Semi Finals, Kyle Baldock placed first with a score of 93.00. His impressive run consisted of a flip barspin, whip to whip, a front flip, and a 360 down whip to whip back. Baldock will join Brett Banasiewicz, Brandon Dosch, Dennis Enarson and the list of riders below in the BMX Dirt finals on Saturday at 4p.m in Las Vegas.

Ride at Ray's. Opening days coming up.

Mirraco's Lenny Westfall will head over to Ray's this Saturday October 15th for the annual opening BBQ. The park in Milwaukee, WI will open up at 9am in the morning and the BBQ will be cranked up around noon. The place is super fun and with fellow riders around it can only be a good time.

The week after, the same thing happens at Ray's Cleveland, Ohio park. It's the 8th season of Ray's MTB and if you haven't been to one of these indoor bike parks yet, it's time to check them out. Both days the bike parks are open till 10PM.

Name: Andy Buckworth

What was the moment where you decided to leave Australia and move to the USA?
Andy:Well there was never a moment, so to speak... I just went to Woodward as a camper in 2007 and from that I got myself the opportunity to go back for the whole summer. After that I had made my mind up that it was what I wanted to do for as long as I could continue doing it.

How long did you stay the first time you went?
Andy: I just stayed for 2 weeks as a camper at Woodward camp.

Australian riders had paved the way already going to the USA to become a pro BMX-er. Who did you look up to when you grew up?
Andy: As I was growing up, one of the 1st BMX DVDs I got was time well spent. And I looked up to Morgen Wade. As I got more into BMX I looked up to Morgen Wade, Ryan Guettler, Jamie Bestwick, Dave Mirra, and Anthony Napolitan.

You are doing it the right way, going back home in the winter to enjoy your summer in Australia. How good is that, enjoying two summers?
Andy: I definitely enjoy the summers. I love going to the beach back home in Australia. But I would love to see some cold weather and go try out snow boarding, just to mix it up a little.

Things can be rough being away from friends and family. Can you explain how rough you had it during your recent injury?
Andy: Yeah it's tough being away from family for 8 month a year at the best of times but when I was hurt it sucked. But fortunately I have a lot of close friends around me and they were always by my side and helping me through.

Being off your bike is rough. How did you handle the time that you were not allowed to ride?
Andy: I don't think I have spent that much time off my bike since I started riding, so it was really hard to find things to pass the time. I just went on a few trips and watched a whole lot of movies.

The first time you got back on the bike, how did that feel?
Andy: It felt amazing! When you have been off the bike for so long you're so happy to be back on the bike, everything you do feels so good.

How long did it take for you to get back into the swing of things?
Andy: Even now, I've been back on my bike for about a month, I still find things I don't have conference doing. But I think it's all going to make me a stronger rider in the long run.

It didn't take long for you to step things up. A double flip over the spine, how does that work out in your head? Do you picture yourself doing the trick before you attempt it?
Andy: Not really. It's something I have been doing on the resi for a long time. I was going to do it just before my crash but the injury put a hold on that. So once I got back on the bike I wanted to get it done as soon as possible. I just picture pulling back enough to flip to fakie but with enough momentum to do double and the momentum from the 2nd rotation carries me forward enough to land in the transition.

You sure had enough time to think about new tricks, is anything else boiling in your head right now?
Andy: Na not really... Just having fun at the moment doing new lines and trying to be more dialed on the bike.

You've been part of the Nitro Circus doing big shows in Australia. What's next for the Circus?
Andy: We are doing another Australian cap city tour early 2012 and there is talks of a Euro tour and US tour but not too sure about them.

It's good to have you back on the bike. Enjoy it. Any shout outs?
Andy: Yeah, just a shout out to all my friends that were there for me when I was in hospital. And to all my sponsors, Monster Energy, Jetpilot, Mirraco, Oakley, Deft, and Ogio.

Austin Coleman entered the vert contest at the Dew Tour in SLC. Austin traveled between doing shows near the SLC airport and the Energy Solutions hall of the Dew Tour to get things done. Swapping from a 10 feet high ramp to the Dew Tour monster vert ramp takes a little time but the Mirraco rider got it done and made it to the next round to finish 7th. With one vert contest to go Austin sits in a joint 6th position with Dennis McCoy. Finals of the Dew Tour will be held in Las Vegas next month. Come on over to support Austin.

Kyle Baldock wins Big Air Best Trick comp

It was a wild night for BMX at the Dew Tour in Salt Lake City. After an amazing dirt contest the Dirt building crew lead by TJ Lavin came in and adjusted the first set of the course a little for a Best Trick "Big Air" session. Winner takes all. On the line: $ 5,000.= and bragging rights.

Mirraco's Andy Buckworth and Kyle Baldock jumped straight in there and gave it all they got. The crashes on some of the attempts could not stop the young Australians and again and again they climbed back on top of the starting platform to give it another go. Both riders pushed the level and when everything was over, Kyle Baldock was announced as the winner of the first Big Air Dirt comp at the Dew Tour. Sick!

Chris Hughes flew up to meet Devin Szmata from Ernie's Sports Experts in Grande Prairie AB. They rode the local park and then made their own park at the shop. Good times were had by all. They really nailed it with the weather - now it's cold again up there. Here's the video of the happening:

Chris Hughes of Mirraco and Dew Tour fame stopped in Grande Prairie between competitions to ride the local scene and put on a couple shows at Ernie's Sports Experts.

Chris was joined by Peace Country native and Ernie's BMX guru, Devin Szmata, who's also on a Mirraco.

The weather was perfect and over 100 local BMX'ers enjoyed hanging out with Chris and Devin over the weekend.

2nd place in Best Trick for Harry in Germany

It was a rough time to get out of the East Coast last weekend. Irene was messing things up. After changing a couple of flights Harry Main made it to Germany in time for the Playgrounds Miniramp invitational contest. Unfortunately his bike, pads and gear did not show up and with all flights being cancelled for the next day, it wasn't going to get there either. Harry sat out the contest but borrowed some shoes, some pads, a helmet and a bike to join the ten minute Best Trick contest. He was on the bike for less than a minute in total but still got 2nd place for the flair drop-in that he did on someone else's bike an a ramp that he had not touched before. Only Harry.

Harry Main flew over to the Telekom Playgrounds in Germany over the weekend but could not compete because the airplines lost his bike. It's a shame because Harry was stoked on the bike and of course he could not compete in the comp the way he wanted to. To show the authorities what his bike looks like, he can just show them the video that VitalBMX put together.

Hopefully he'll get it back.

Harry Main's in Germany at the moment and will participate at the Telekom Playgrounds. It's a Miniramp contest that has riders on board such as Mark Webb, Alex Coleborn, Tobias Wicke, Michael Beran and other killer riders. The event will be streamed live on the internet. It's a head to head battle so you can be the judge as well as riders will battle for a transfer spot to the next round head to head. How far will Harry get? Just watch:

Wins for Hughes and Baldock in UT

Chris Hughes and Kyle Baldock were over in Utah last weekend for the King of the Mountain dirt contest. The chill dirt comp brought some good riding out of both of them. After all was said and done both Chris and Kyle brought home an award. In fact, Kyle won two. He was crowned as the King of the Mountain and also won the best trick contest with a Frontflip No-Hander to Barspin. Chris Hughes won the Best Tabletop contest.

In just an hour's time the 12 invited riders at the first ever King Of The Mountain jam at Powder Mountain in Utah shut down the dirt jump and threw banger after banger before Kyle Baldock was named this year's best trick winner. It all started at Ocean City nearly a month ago, the pressure to make it through open qualifier for 2011 was playing on my mind, to then come out and win the first stop of Ocean City, I was speechless as you all would know haha. After the cameras where off & I had a spare minute to let it sink that I just achieved a life time goal I honestly wouldn't have gotten this far without my girlfriend, friends and family but of course to all my sponsors and my fans.

After Ocean City I was back in North Carolina for one day. I then flew to LA for my first ever X-games. My girlfriend and I were bummed that we didn't have enough time to sight see, but from what I saw LA is an amazing place to be. The course at X-games wasn't a course I would normally ride, but you learn to adapt to what you're given to ride and to make the most of this. I ended up missing out on finals but I was so stoked that I made it to semis after my first invite.

After X-games we then flew to Orange County, where Guettler, my girlfriend and I stayed with Pat Casey and his family. We played in the pool, shot some hoops and of course couldn't leave without riding his backyard ramp. They are such an awesome family, we had so much fun.

The ASA contest was held at the Orange County Fair. ASA is a fun contest to just chill and have fun, by this time I was so tired after all these contests. When we were in LA we were luckily enough to go behind the scenes and have a day each at the Monster warehouse, Vans Warehouse and also Unit's warehouse. It was great to see how everything works behind doors, they have a great team of people, it was so much fun!

The Nike 6.0 contest was also on at Huntington Beach. We were able to head down and check it out.

We then were yet again at another airport where we were heading to the next stop of Dew Tour in Portland. Portland stop for me was a big one, had Both Park and dirt to compete in even though I don't normally ride dirt. I thought it would be a great stress reliever to take the pressure off park. I ended up taking 2nd place in dirt which was more than I expected & also 2nd in Park. The park course was awesome. Dennis Enarson did a great job of designing the course.

I'm really happy of how I've been riding, this year has become a really big year for me. I had a few days rest back in NC then I was off the weekend to the King of the Mountain Dirt comp in UTAH. This was a chilled weekend, hanging out with some of my boys and riding. There was some big tricks and Bigger Crashes had by all. I ended up pulling my first ever Frontie tuck to bar which crowned me King of the Mountain haha.

Thanks to Monster Engergy for the great weekend. I honestly couldn't be where I am now without my sponsors so I want to give a shout out to Unit, Vans, Monster and Mirraco for letting me live the dream. Now it's time to get practicing for Salt Lake City. Till next time. Peace out!

2nd place in Dirt for Kyle Baldock

The Dew Tour landed in Portland last weekend with the Park and Dirt competition. After finishing second in the Park comp, Kyle Baldock had one more final to go; DIRT. The gap between first and second in park was small, and it was even closer in Dirt. Dennis Enarson grabbed the win and Kyle got a sweet 2nd place for his riding.
