Hugh's customized Project 16

How stoked is this kid? He's not only riding a Mirraco Project 16 but he has customized his ride with some special parts too. Here's some info from Hugh's family:

Eight year-old Hugh has always wanted a bike with a gold sprocket, but till now none of his race or freestyle bikes took sprockets. So he picked fellow Midwesterners Tree Bicycle Co.'s Lite Sprocket when had the chance. Fellow Iowans Flatlandfuel.com helped us with a shorter stem, and then had to have something on the bike from our favorite BMX parts company, Snap BMX Products, so that is where the burnt orange seat clamp is from.

Hugh's favorite customization is the forks. He says "the paint job on the forks are really cool." It's a base coat of black and mom blew the gold spray paint from a straw for the splatters.

Hugh says his new Project 16 is awesome and
"I can air up really high" on it. Our local MirraCo dealer, Hall Bicycle Co. did a great job with it, including building custom front hub guard and a rear chain guard.

Additions to the solid complete MirraCo. bike include:

Snap BMX Products seat clamp, Tree Bicycle Co. Lite sprocket, SINZ Mini seat w/ post, Profile 145 mm Race Cranks, Odyssey Purple Rain Levers & Evo II front brake and Suelo 35 mm stem.

With four pegs and all still only 19.5 lbs.

Wish to thank supporters 661, Mirraco Bikes and Hall Bicycle Co.

Mirra wins first Rally race

BMX Legend Dave Mirra is joining the Subaru Rally Team USA in a 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI after snagging his first rally win in New Hampshire at the 2009 Team O'Neil Rally.

By press release:

Dave Mirra Earns First Rally Win, Will Join Subaru Rally Team USA as 3rd Driver in 2009

(Jan 27, 2009) After having competed in only a handful of rally events, BMX legend Dave Mirra has won his first rally race, the 2009
Team O'Neil Rally, at the wheel of his 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI
rally car. Mirra dominated the New Hampshire-based snow rally by
setting fastest time on all but one of the event's eight stages and
finishing with a lead of fifty seconds. The wins comes just over one
year after Mirra began his burgeoning rally career that has since seen
him be named the 2008 Rally America Rookie of the Year as well as earn
a Bronze medal at last summer's X Games 14 Rally Car Racing event.

"I'm really excited to get my first win, the roads were a lot of fun
here," explained Mirra. "Running in these snowy conditions was
perfect preparation for the Sno*Drift Rally [which serves as the first
round of the Rally America Championship] next week, so I will have a
lot more confidence from the start."

Mirra's rally program will expand in 2009 with increased support from
Subaru of America, Inc. and Monster Energy that will see him join
Subaru Rally Team USA drivers Ken Block and Travis Pastrana at all
nine rounds of the 2009 Rally America National Championship as well as
X Games 15. Mirra will compete in the new Super Production class and
will debut a 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI early in the race season.

Subaru Rally Team USA is proudly supported by Subaru of America,Subaru Tecnica International (STI), Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT),
DC Shoes, BFGoodrich Tires, RECARO, Alpinestars, Motul, Exedy, GReddy,
and Vermont SportsCar.

About Dave Mirra:

Mirra became a pro BMX rider in 1992 and holds the record for most X
Games medals (including most Gold medals), and has medaled in every X
Games since its inception in 1995. With his current X Games medal
count at twenty one, Mirra is recognized as one of the World's most
well known Action Sports athletes and is credited with bringing
freestyle BMX into the mainstream.

Mirra has always been a car enthusiast and became hooked on rallying after friend and Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ken Block introduced him to the sport. Mirra completed a test and training program with Vermont
SportsCar in late 2007 and entered a limited number of rounds of the
2008 Rally America National Championship, making an impressive debut
season to earn 2008 Rookie of the Year honors. He surprised rally
veterans and casual fans alike on his rally debut at X Games 14 where
he earned a Bronze medal, after defeating two championship-caliber,
North American drivers in separate head-to-head heats.

Cars article on RIDEBMX

RIDEBMX has an article up on the cars that BMX people drive. They also asked Dave Mirra some questions on his current car situation. Dave tells what cars he has, what he has done to them, what he uses them for etc. It's a car article on a BMX website but interesting if you're into nice vehicles.

Check it here.

Harry Main learned a new trick yesterday....

Harry Main's interview in RIDE UK is good. Try to get a copy for yourself and get stoked. After the Simpel Session contest Harry built up a new Mirraco Blend frame and went to the park to learn a couple more tricks in one session. If you hit this link you can see one of them.

New Nigel Nike ad

Nigel Sylvester has a decent sponsorship package. He recently picked up Gatorade as a drink sponsor and joined the DansComp team just in case he needs some new bike parts that his sponsors Mirraco and animal don't make. Nigel has been on NIKE for a while which is a good fit. This new 6.0 - Nigel Sylvester advertisement came out recently and showed up in the new RIDE UK mag.

Simpel Session Estonia

Big contests are cool, especially when they're done right. The stands were full and the crowd got loud during the finals of Simpel Session '09 in Tallinn, Estonia. The finalists made sure the people who watched were not disappointed. Nigel Sylvester must have been bummed he missed his flight because there were plenty of flat banks, ledges and rails that he would have loved. Maxime adapted to the set up and finished 13th in the finals and Harry Main just missed out on a final spot by finishing 21st. There was however a Black Pearl frame in the top 5 but we can't say any more than that.

Next comp: BMX Games, Australia.

Simpel Session 2009

Not sure if you followed the Simpel Session BMX qualification live on the Mirraco website but if you did, you saw Maxime Charveron make the final and Harry Main missing the top 20-cut by one place. It wasn't his day (or his favorite park lay-out) and after his first 720 over the spine did not work out, he already lost his rhythm.

Harry was one of the rulers in practice though on the "miniramp section" and you can expect a video clip of him in the next couple of days from this very contest. If you're missing Nigel Sylvester here, it's because he missed his flight. Not sure if he'll get to Tallinn, Estonia before the "Best Trick" contest starts on Sunday but watch the event live and you will find out.

Starts at 16:00hr local time. Tallinn, Estonia is NY time + 7 hours.

Andy sessions with Ryan

Ryan Guettler is on tour at the moment in his home country. At the Slam Factory skatepark he met up with local Andrew Buckworth and they had a good session going on. Andy is local at the park and showed he's got it down by pulling triple whips, bike flips and giant downside whips. Here's a photo of the new Mirraco rider adding some style to that whip on his new Black Pearl.

Next stop: BMX Games.

Wintertime!

If you're living in SoCal or in a country where it's summer right now it is easy to forget what conditions other people have to deal with right now. Take a look at Alessandro Barbero's park in Italy. There's just no way you can ride these ramps with all the snow it received. Alessandro thinks the same as he's going under the knife tomorrow to have some screws taken out of his ankle. 2 weeks off the bike for the Italian. Maybe by then the snow has melted. Hopefully.

Mirraco hooks up Andy Buckworth

Andy Buckworth is from the Central Coast of NSW, just north of Sydney and grabs every opportunity to ride his bike. When Andrew is home in Australia he likes to ride at the Slam Factory indoor skatepark and his local park Wadalba. When he's not in Australia he's chillin' at Woodward camp in the USA riding the best parks ever.

Andy has planned to hit the major comps in Australia this summer including the 2009 BMX Games, Cam White's trail jam and any other event that pops up. Around May he'll be heading back to Woodward for another summer and he's going to try his luck in the AST Dew Tour in 2009. If you are wondering who that rad rider is with that Australian accent, chances are it's Andy Buckworth. Plenty of talent from down under.

Chocolate winner

My name is Chris Doherty, and I was the winner of the MirraCo/Nike contest on FATBMX. I wanted to personaly tell you guys thank you for the frame! You have no idea how happy I was when I saw this thing sitting in front of my door! Thank you so much! Check the photo of the frame all built up. I honestly love this color and it is probably the most responsive street frame I've ever ridden.
