UK-USA-UK with Harry Main

"Hey everybody, so my Greenville trip is over and I'm about to fly home to the U.K. I had an amazing time at Dave's contest in the Animal House, then went on to Florida for a Nike 6.0 filming trip!

Then I came back to Greenville and rode some more and shot some photos and a bike check!

I'm off home to see my family for a week or 2! Then me and Matty Lambert are flying away to a secret location to film a Nike web video, but you'll hear more of that soon!

Thanks for everyone who made me feel welcomed on my trip over the pond! and Ryan Guettler for letting me crash at his place!

Have a happy Xmas and New Year everyone."

Getting a cover is always cool. Maxime Charveron experienced it earlier this week by getting the cover of SOUL BMX Experience. Now Ryan Guettler scores the new cover of BMX Plus! with this Indian Super Whip.

Not sure if the February 2010 issue is already in the stores but look out for this covershot.

Congrats Ryan!

Mirraco bikes in 2010 Sunex catalog

French Mirra Bike Co distributor Sunex recently released their 2010 catalog. Sunex are a true BMX distributor and they carry many brands. We'd like to think that the 2010 Mirraco line is their main focus and because we got the first six pages in the catalog, it sure looks so.

Now there is no need to send a few Euros in an envelope to flip through the catalog. It is available online too.

Here is the link: 2010 Sunex Catalog.

Camera's were fully charged before people stepped into the Animal House for the event last weekend. "Marstancil1" put together the following edit and posted it on Youtube.

It has some different angles and maybe some tricks that you haven't seen yet since it's 9 minutes long. A nice lookback on a weekend that brought the tricks.

King Of The Animal House Final report.

The First ever King of the Animal House Invitational is over and this year’s crown goes to Dennis Enarson. The battle for the car between Enarson and Ryan Nyquist was actually so close, nobody could call it. These guys separated themselves from the rest of the field with mind boggling bangers never before seen in the Animal House. Our only wish is that Wade had not gone down on his first trick (jersey barrier flair) and been knocked out due to an ankle injury that prevented him from walking. It would have been awesome to see what Morgan Wade would have brought to counter the ongoing battle between Nyquist and Enarson. 2 of the biggest tricks we’ve ever seen would have to be Nyquist’s double bar out of the top of the pocket wall (he also 540’d out of the top as well) and Enarsons contest ending double whip transfer to the huge quarter wall. The video you see online does not do any of this shit justice. It’s so much bigger than any of it looks on film. The Dew Tours of the sport could learn a lot from this type of event. The reason the riding was so huge was the format and the overall atmosphere. The jam format is an absolute must to keep the energy flowing and the tricks bang’n. Having to wait 2 minutes between riders (like in Dew Tour) is an absolute buzzkill and clearly handicaps the riding as shown by what went down here.

The festivities were capped of with an awards dinner in downtown Greenville featuring a tribute to one of the true pioneers of the sport Ron Wilkerson. Mark Eaton put together an awesome retrospective of Ron’s BMX history in a 15 minute video that was followed by a cool “Legend of Legends” trophy presented to Ron by Dave Mirra. Ron spoke for a few minutes and seemed genuinely surprised and clearly stoked to get the recognition long overdue to one of the original badasses of BMX.

Overall, this has been an amazing event and an awesome way to end a hectic contest season. The level of riding was clearly off the hook with nobody holding back. Even the guys who knew they didn’t have a realistic shot of winning the car, brought everything they had. We hope next year all riders will be rewarded with something for busting their ass to put on an amazing show.

A huge congrats go out to the big winners of Enarson, Nyquist, and Mast.

King Of The Animal House Finals Movie

Dennis Enarson was crowned the King Of The Animal House. With moves like his double tailwhip transfer it was not a surprise by anyone. The King drove off in a Subaru WRX. Second place winner Ryan Nyquist wheelied out of there on a 250f and Craig Mast was blinging at the party with a $ 5000,= Breitling watch.

Here is the FINALS movie from the folks at RIDEBMX:

Cash Jam at Mirra's Animal House

Day one of the 2009 King of the Animal House is officially in the books and it was one to remember. Being a completely new contest concept, nobody knew what to expect or how it would play out. Although it started off a little slow as people were trying to figure out the system, once it got going, it blew up quick.

The overall vibe was incredible and full of positive energy with each rider throwing out their bust stuff hoping to get a cash callout and get paid. If the judges saw something they liked, and they saw a lot they liked, they called it out and Dave would assign a dollar value to it. The bigger the banger, the bigger the payout. I think the biggest single payout was around $300 and it went to Enarson who was just shredding the course with back to back sickness. Although the jam was announced to be a “trickfest” rather than putting together a complete run, it was clear that the guys who were linking a few hits together were raking up the $$$ quicker than those who were just working on single tricks.

There were around 4 basic components to the format. First was a 20 minute open jam. Bring ur best stuff anywhere on the course. Then it moved to best trick on the Winkelman wall, followed by a quick best invert, then finished with another open jam. Although originally planned as an $8k cash jam, it was so intense that Dave decided to throw in another $2k to keep the progression going. All in all, the riders seemed to have a great time watching each other throw their best stuff and see if it got paid. Some did, some didn’t, but it sure as hell was fun to watch. The only thing that would make it better next time would be $25k, and HEAT, since it was only around 35 degrees inside the Animal House for the contest.

One of the highlights of the night had to be the Morgan Wade, Ben Hennon and Rob Darden mini battle to find the biggest transfer line. Typical Wade stuff. HUGE. Wade ended up winning Best Trick (and a custom surfboard) for his monster turndown transfer from the jersey barrier to the quarter wall. He also tried the biggest flair I’ve ever seen, out of the huge pocketwall. Had to be at 30 ft or so out. He also did huge flairs off of the jersey barrier and even survived a couple of super high bailouts.

DC $10K CASH JAM $$$ PAYOUT

ENARSON $1150
NYQUIST $900
WADE $ 900
DHERS $900
WEB $825
HENNON $800
BYRON $700
GUETTLER $650
MAST $650
SMITH $500
HUGHES $450
MAIN $425
DARDEN $400
PERRY $350
MAD DOG $300
LAIRD $100

King Of The Animal House part one. Practice.

Mirraco riders Harry Main, Ryan Guettler and Mike Laird got some practice in at the Animal House. Things are looking good for all three. Harry flew in from England after winning the T-Mobile contest in Berlin on Sunday. He's getting over the jetlag now. Mike Laird is riding brakeless and Guettler is finding the lines in the Animal House. The place has received some Subaru, DC and Monster advertising and a huge King Of The Animal House logo on one of the walls. Here are a few notes of what's been happening on Thursday:

-Mad Dog replaces Chase Hawk who is out with hurt shoulder
-Drew Bezanson can’t get out of Canada/into the US for some paperwork issue so he won't be here
-Vince Byron boosting to the moon
-there will be a head to head mini comp between Chris Hughes and Vince Byron to win a place in the final jam. Whoever wins the most $$$ in Friday’s cash jam gets the spot
-Harry Main looks good. Ryan Guettler looks good. Some are struggling to adjust to the space. Others, like Mad Dog were up to speed almost immediately.
-Morgan Wade took a hard fall to his shoulder in practice with a hangup on a quarter. Went to the hospital for x-rays that were negative. He’s gonna try to take some advil and go for it tomorrow.
-Daniel Dhers still brakeless. So is Mike Laird.

Andy Buckworth Q&A about the Animal House comp

Andy Buckworth is at home in Australia with a bad back after sliding out on a slippery ramp. He's bummed he can't ride his new bike and he's also bummed on missing out on the King Of The Animal House event in Greenville this weekend. Here's what Andy has to say about the new comp at Dave Mirra's warehouse.

How many Aussies are going to ride the comp?

Guettler for sure.

Do you think he'll do good at Mirra's place?

1, lol.

And another car.

Hells yeah, he will kill it!

Have you ridden Dave's place?

Yes, it was amazing.

If Dave would enter himself, would he pick up one of the top three prizes?

Yeah I think so. I think he would kill it too.

How do you think team mates Mike Laird and Harry Main will do.

I think Harry has a good chance in the top 3.

Have you heard of any tricks that will be unleashed at the event?

All I've seen is Harry's new web video. It was nuts. I think the finals will go off.

What do you think of this event being added to the 2009 BMX Freestyle schedule?

I think it's awesome, the more comps the better.

So Greenville will be a real PRO TOWN this weekend with all the invited riders around...

Yeah it's already pro town but this weekend would be a great time to be there.

Are you bummed you're not there?

Yeah a little bit.

With all the media there you'll get to see it soon after it happens. Long live the internet.

Yeah hahahaha, but nothing will be as good as seeing it live.

Anything you want to add Andy?

It will be an amazing contest and I wish I was there.
